In August 2011, we moved to these 7+ acres of land for two reasons: One) I felt the spirit of the land calling me because I had asked my guides to show us a place where we could build a place of healing. Two) My two daughters and realtor liked it and said this was the place! I really trust my girls and my realtor (Tami Goodrich at Foundations in Yarmouth).
My daughters helped to come up with the name of our land: Lenape-Abenaki Farm. Allow me to explain. Lenape is the name is the Native Americans who lived on the land hundreds of years ago where I grew up, outside Philadelphia. Abenaki is the name of the Native Americans who lived in New England. Since my work and my spirit guides are based on many Native American traditions, we felt it was important to honor this heritage in our name. Thus, Lenape-Abenkai Farm!
My belief and current healing work is based on the foundation that when we honor and partner with the plants, animals, and land on which live and work, we will be living in optimal health. Lenape-Abenaki Farm is about providing a place where people can come to disconnect from their stresses and worries, and connect with nature, so that peace, light, love, and compassion can be allowed to enter into the visitors busied heart and spirit.
Lenape-Abenaki Farm is truly at its infancy as I write this on Dec. 31, 2011, so I want to share what the hopes and dreams are for this special place, knowing that anyone can visit the farm when they feel a calling to do so.
Meditation-Healing Trails. There will be two trails that will traverse the land. The Lenape Trail is the short, inner trail, with mediation/healing points under a birch grove, a fern garden, a weeping willow tree, a beech tree grove, and other points. The Abenaki Trail is the longer, outer trail, and it will have stopping points under the strong white pine trees, other healing trees, and next to some special earth-based healing points known as power centers. The meditation-healing points will be identified with signs that describe what healing that particular point can facilitate, and by benches made from fallen trees and rocks that are already on the property. Work has already begun on planning and creating the trails.
Medicine Wheel & Labyrinth. Using the countless rocks that are throughout the property, we intend to build a Medicine Wheel and Labyrinth, where visitors can sit or walk, to seek healing, wisdom, and peace. Work has begun on planning these special places on the farm.
Sacred Gardens. It is our intention to establish some sacred gardens where flowers, plants, and herbs will be grown. Some of the plants will be used for consumption, while others will be used by a local practitioner who uses herbs and flowers in her practice. Work has begun on planning where the Sacred Gardens will be placed on the farm.
Hobby Farm. Currently we have 4 chickens, two dogs, and a horse (lives down the road). We would like to have more animals, and will move forward in this arena as resources allow. The intention of the hobby farm is to provide a place for children to come visit so they can connect with nature and with animals. So often our children are asked to fit into certain boxes at school, so we are trying to create a space where children can just be themselves, be relaxed, and laugh & marvel in the midst of animal noises and aromas!
Healing-Exercise Place. The ultimate dream, but why not dream big!? The basement is currently unfinished but has space big enough for a large yoga (or similar) studio, as well as two smaller spaces where practitioners like Polarity Therapists, Reiki Masters, Massage Therapists, Herbalists, etc, can meet with clients. Like the Hobby Farm, we will move forward with this phase as resources allow.
The People. We are moving forward with the development of the Lenape-Abenaki Farm with the encouragement and support of friends and colleagues. Some people have offered to help create the trails and clear the land, others have offered free animals, and others have offered words that run deep with love and support. The winter months are providing a time of reflection of planning, with most of the work starting as soon as weather and grounds permit in early Spring 2012. If you would like to help develop Lenape-Abenaki Farm, then please send me an email letting me know how you would like to help. We will need help in the Spring with clearing, creating trails, building benches, and planting gardens. Animals and shelter for the animals are also needed. If you would like to donate money, especially to help with the feeding of the animals and building of shelter for them, please consider making a donation.
Gratitude. We share this dream and intention for Lenape-Abenaki Farm with the deepest gratitude and appreciation to our family, friends, colleagues, clients, teachers, and to all the spirit guides who have brought us to this land and reside on this land, and to the land, plants, and animals who live here. Namaste’!
